Tie one end of the trotline to the edge of a bank (big rock, partially or submerged tree). Run main line across bay. Stretch line tight but not too tight then attach the other end to the edge of a bank (may have to add additional lead line or another trotline to reach across). Add weights (rock or coffee can filled with concrete) about 10 feet from shore on both ends to weight line down so boats won't hit it. I also use a weight in the center of the trotline. Wait a couple of hours after dark or check in the morning. When taking fish off the line. Use a landing net under the fish before you bring it out of the water.
